OCEAN FLIPPERS
COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS TEAM
2011 JO Level 10
National Championships
Gilly Hogue & Courtney Turner, both Ocean Flipper Level 10's, traveled
to Long Beach, CA for the Junior Olympic Level 10 National
Championships. Courtney, a junior at West Brunswick HS in
Shallotte, NC competed for the Senior B division. She nailed a beautiful
floor routine (9.250) and stuck her new vault (quarter side quarter or
tsuk 1/2 -- 9.100) in the large sports arena. Gilly Hogue, a
sophomore at Socastee HS in Socastee, SC competed for the Junior C
division. As a team, the Junior C Region 8 team placed 2nd, the
highest placing Region 8 team in the National Championships.
Individually, Gilly hit four for four, scoring a 9.000 on her bar
routine, a 9.375 on her yurchenko layout full vault, a 9.425 on a solid
beam routine (8th place) and an outstanding 9.500 on her floor routine
(7th place). She scored a 37.300 in the all-around and placed 15th
in the nation. We are so proud of Courtney and Gilly and look
forward to their future!

The Ocean Flipper Prep Opt Silver, Gold & Platinum gymnasts traveled to
Sarasota, FL for the 2011 Prep Opt Regional Championships. They
came home with lots of medals and a REGIONAL UNEVEN BARS CHAMPION!

Competitive Team
Program
Gymnastics & More's competitive team program is designed for the gymnast who is
proficient with all the skills required in our recreational class programs.
Once they have achieved those skills (USA Gymnastics Levels 1-2), they are
invited to train with our Level 3 competitive team who will train Level 4
skills in hopes of moving up to our competitive Level 4/Prep Silver (or higher) team.
We have boys and girls competitive gymnastics.
Our team program maintains the same philosophy of
Gymnastics & More: To build self-esteem through fitness and fun AND to
teach the sport in a safe and fun environment while raising the child's level of
self-esteem. Our team program also includes certain coaching goals:
To provide the mental and physical discipline needed for competition within a
framework of positive reinforcement and encouragement. Learning to be
comfortable in a competitive situation is a positive experience and adds to a
child's development.
We established our team in 1994 and have won a South
Carolina State Championship Team Title every year. That means from
1994-2008, an Ocean Flipper or an entire Ocean Flipper Team was crowned STATE
CHAMPION. We have produced over 50 individual All-Around State Champions.
Our first graduating senior from high school earned a full gymnastics
scholarship to the University of North Carolina. The owner of Gymnastics &
More, Louie Liguori, has had a total of 9 gymnasts received college gymnastics
scholarships and 3 on the Junior National Team.
