We are so PROUD to announce Coach Kayla has joined our Ocean Flipper family ! Kayla recently relocated here from Salem Gymnastics and we are so excited to add her to staff.
Kayla’s passion for gymnastics began at a young age when she made her grand debut taking Tumbleweed classes from Mr. Jason here at Salem. Kayla grew up in the gym, competing in a Salem leo for many years. She was an integral part of Salem’s team that won 1st place at the 2002 Level 6 State Championships and 2nd at the 2003 Level 7 State Championships. Later that year Kayla’s family relocated to Clearwater, Florida where she continued competing gymnastics at Levels 8 and 9 for LaFleur’s Gymnastics Club of Largo. She then went on to compete in Power Tumbling, where she placed 10th in her age group at Power Tumbling Nationals. Kayla was also on the track and field team for her high school where she broke the school record for Pole Vault, jumping 10 feet! After graduation, Kayla attended Liberty University where she was a member of both their Track and Field and Club Gymnastics Teams. She graduated from Massage Therapy School and worked for the Wellness Center/Physical Therapy Department at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater while coaching gymnastics on the side. She returned to LaFleur’s gymnastics, this time as a member of their competitive team coaching staff. Pulling from her past successes, Kayla helped coach their Level 4 & 5 Teams to win the Florida State Meet three years in a row. In 2015 Kayla returned to Winston-Salem and Salem Gymnastics to coach at her home gym in her hometown, where she worked with children of all ages and all abilities
Cindy Cumbo is originally from Charlotte, NC. She has cheered both competitively and professionally and has over 25 years of coaching experience. She moved to the beach and retired from owning and operating a competitive all-star cheer program in North Carolina. During that time, her teams brought home over 25 National Titles as well as numerous state and regional titles. Through the years, Cindy has coached athletes ranging from the ages of 3 to 40, and has had the joy of watching many of her athletes go on to become college cheerleaders, cheer coaches and all-star gym owners. In 2008, Cindy was named National Christian Coach of the Year and has had the opportunity to speak at summer camps, National Coaches Conferences as well as mentored high school, all-star and college coaches. Cindy is a member of the USASF and a board member of Christian Cheerleaders of America. Cindy came out of retirement 2 years ago to begin a new premier all-star program at Gymnastics & More. She feels honored to be a part of the Gymnastics & More team and is excited to watch the program grow. She feels by combining her experience in cheer, along with the strong precision tumbling program of Louie Liguori and MBA team coaches, they will have just the edge they need to build a strong all-star National Champion cheer program.
